5 Tips Help To Prevent Dog Bites
August 19, 2022

Pets are excellent, and they can last a long time with the proper care. However, they are still living things that carry pathogens and other microscopic critters that can make them and you sick. These living things can be passed to humans, other animals, and the environment, so it is essential to keep them healthy. Pets are expensive, and it is vital to keep the costs down by giving them the proper care that will help prevent them from diseases. This blog post lists five ways you can keep your pet disease-free!

1. Get Routine Vet Visits
Routine vet visits are number one on the list because it is crucial. Attending the Mississauga Animal Hospital regularly can help detect problems before they become major. Routine checkups are also essential to keep your pet’s vaccines up-to-date and fight diseases better (like humans). Because pets can’t talk, you must visit the vet and ensure everything is going well.

2Use Preventative Medications
Because your pet cannot communicate with you, it is up to you to find out if there is a problem. It can be not easy with some pets, so preventative medications are often given. These medications can help ward off diseases and keep your pet healthy. These medicines include flea and tick protection, heartworm prevention, and vaccines, to name a few. It would be best if you always asked about these options at the veterinary mississauga because they may not be available at your local pet store.

3. Keep Up with Vaccinations
Vaccinations are vital to keeping your pet safe from diseases. Some vaccines your pet should get every year, while others only need to be given once. The importance of these vaccines cannot be stressed enough because they can save you and your pet from some severe threats. Be sure you take all the recommended vaccines by any proffessional veterinarians in mississauga, for your pets, and when it is time for boosters, make sure to get them!

4. Keep Pets Away from Wildlife
Pets have been known to get diseases from wildlife. Rabies has been a big concern for many years and is still prevalent today, as well as other diseases like canine distemper, parvovirus, canine coronavirus, and toxoplasmosis. It is essential to keep your pet away from wildlife because they can be carriers of diseases that can be dangerous. If you see a wild animal, take care not to approach it because it could have rabies.

5. Watch What Your Pet Eats
It is always essential to keep an eye on what your pets are feeding on. If you’re unsure whether food is good for animals, ask the vets in mississauga to help you with this. With other animals, it is essential to know that some animals can be carriers and could transfer diseases back to you. Contaminated food can also make pets ill, so it’s best to avoid foods made by foreign companies and stick with store-bought and store-brand foods.

It is vital to keep your pet’s health a priority. Your pet extends your family, and it is up to you to keep them safe and healthy. If they are not, they risk getting very sick, or worse!

I came here with neighbour recommendation and have never regret. Having 2 female cats and 1 of them had really bad troubles as a kitten and I believe that Dr. Medhat really saved her life. Fair pricing compared to other hospitals we had been through when our kitten was sick. I appreciate Dr. Medhat’s and his team’s kindness and professionalism when helping us. Greatfull from the bottom of my heart. Thank you.

I just started taking my dog to see Dr. M a few months ago. He has a very practical approach to treating my dog. He was also able to squeeze me in for a last minute treatment when something came up which needed to be addressed before we went out of town. All of the team at Truscott have been very professional and kind. Take your pet there - they will be well cared for.

We moved into the area a few years ago and began buying our cat food from Truscott Animal Hospital (we have a very specific cat food we order that aids in one of our cat's urinary issues while being safe for our other cat who has a heart murmur -- we have three cats). This past summer, we admittedly still hadn't taken our cats for a check-up because it causes severe anxiety and transferred aggression issues but in August, our youngest began yowling and ran upstairs. When I went to check on him, it looked as though one of his canines had become dislodged or cracked and he was obviously in severe pain. Truscott Animal Hospital was able to take us later that day to look at our cat and we found out he was going to need a large number of teeth removed due to gum disease; they were able to book him in for surgery two days later. They let us know that 11 teeth would need to be removed but thankfully the doctor only had to remove 9 once surgery began. From the moment that I met Dr. Meawad, it was clear how much he cares for and loves animals. He was extremely kind to us; I felt very guilty that our cat had to go through this but Dr. Meawad was so compassionate and reassured me that our cat's gum disease wasn't our fault and that unfortunately sometimes it happens to cats regardless of the care they're receiving. Feline dental surgery is expensive but the final price at Truscott Animal Hospital was very reasonable, we appreciate this SO much as the surprise bill was difficult financially. They didn't even charge us for the follow-up appointment, which was so generous. Our cat's surgery was successful and after less than a day, he was back to his old self. Everything healed completely fine and it was as though nothing had ever happened! On Truscott Animal Hospital's website, Dr. Meawad says his goal is to treat his patients as if they are his own. I'd say his goal is accomplished over and over because I saw this firsthand with my own cat and through the many people I've see in the clinic requesting appointments with him and expressing their gratitude towards him. We are so happy to have found such an understanding and compassionate veterinary practice close to home. Dr. Meawad, thank you so much for treating our fur baby as your own (and I'm sorry it took me so long to write the review you deserve)! Thank you thank you thank you!

Best veterinarian and clinic staff! Dr. M saved our dog by giving us short notice appointments and calling in an ultrasound technician on short notice. The staff was amazingly caring and friendly. Our dog Puff has made a full recovery thanks to the medications and diet plan he suggested. I couldn’t be more happy! Truly great people at this clinic.

Our cat Buddy suddenly suffered a catastrophic bladder blockage. Dr. M took him right in, quickly examined and Xrayed him and said immediate surgery was required. We gave our consent and Buddy was operated on that day and stayed overnight and was returned to us the next day. Dr. M and staff have always shown utmost care and concern for the animals brought to them. Our many thanks.

Short story: after days and hours of research I chose to go to Dr M for my dog that was diagnosed with cancer. Dr M saved my dogs life. He is amazing with difficult dogs and compassionate - but most importantly to me he is extremely competent.

Long story: My dog laura was diagnosed with cancer. After which, we called and visited over 10 different vets with high ratings/awards/specialities because we did not want to settle for anything but the best with our dog (who is truly our daughter). We chose Dr M after hearing how each doctor would proceed with surgery to remove the cancer, and he slotted us in within a week and thank god we did. We originally went in to get one cancerous mass removed but when we showed him other lands which is what other vets diagnosed as a “fat deposit” he confidently suggested we remove and turned out to be an another cancer. He saved her life truly. She is a traumatized rescue and he was great with her because of his confidence, unlike any other vet we have seen. We could not be more grateful to Dr M.
